UPDATE: Radiohead’s publisher releases statement
Radiohead has sued Lana Del Rey over her song, Get Free, which the British band says is too similar to its super hit, Creep, Del Rey confirmed Sunday.
“It’s true about the lawsuit,” Del Rey tweeted. “Although I know my song wasn’t inspired by Creep, Radiohead feel it was and want 100% of the publishing – I offered up to 40 over the last few months but they will only accept 100. Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court.”

ED SHEERAN’S ‘÷’ IS THE BIGGEST ALBUM OF 2017 It’s official. Global superstar Ed Sheeran has the biggest album of 2017, with sales equivalents of his blockbuster release “÷” (“divide”) exceeding 2,764,000 units. On Friday (Jan. 5), Justin Timberlake shared the video for “Filthy,” his first single since 2016’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”
The futuristic visuals have already racked up over 7 million views and now the singer is revealing how the video was made. On Saturday (Jan. 6), Timberlake shared behind-the-scenes footage from the “Filthy” shoot.

Predictably, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran proved to be pop music’s heroes in 2017, but the year’s other A-listers might come as a bit of a surprise.
According to Nielsen’s annual year-end report, Sheeran and Swift saw out 2017 as the No. 1 and No. 2 pop artists of 2017, respectively. With Divide, Sheeran notched sales of 3.6 million sales with albums, streaming-equivalent albums and track-equivalent albums considered, while Swift and her Reputation efforts managed 3.3 million.

If Bruno Mars and Cardi B’s colorful music video for “Finesse” feels familiar, that’s because it’s supposed to.
The video — both sonically and visually — is steeped in euphoric nostalgia for shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and In Living Color, as well as an era of music when acts like Salt-N-Pepa, New Edition and Janet Jackson ruled the airwaves, blasting radio with a funky hybrid of hip hop, R&B, dance, freestyle and new jack swing sounds.
In 2016, Mars’ album 24K Magic — as well as his current single (and its delightful Cardi B-assisted remix) — payed homage to the gold chains and color-blocked threads of late ’80s, early ’90s hip hop, including its energetic, dance-oriented soundscapes and unrelenting beats.

Remember when boy bands would break up and devastate entire fan bases? And individual members would fade away into pop culture obscurity after failing to recapture the band’s collective magic in solo form? And sometimes, one breakout member might rise to superstar status while the others wouldn’t get even close? Consider the tragic post-group pop narrative ancient history.

Case in point: One Direction made boy band history in 2017 after all five original members released songs that hit the Top 40, Nielsen reports.
Zayn led the pack with his collaboration with Taylor Swift, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,” off the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, which garnered 350 million streams and 1.4 million purchases to date. Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands” had the second most sales, pushing 1 million purchases.
